Dental exam and cleaning are one of the less popular preventive medical procedures. Dental exam and cleaning are just as important as an annual physical exam or a general health checkup as it is also a preventive measure to keep your body healthy. We recommend that you go for a dental checkup at least once every year to keep oral infections at bay.

Dental Checkup Procedure

There are quite a number of risks and problems you may not be able to address with your toothbrush and paste. Here is everything the procedure entails.

Cleaning

Different dentists and oral hygienists have different regimens for their patients as regards dental examination and cleaning. Ours is a simple one that may not take even an hour of your time.

Cleaning comes before examination in our treatment. Here the dental hygienist or dentist first scrapes your teeth to remove plaque and tartar that may have accumulated under your gums and on your teeth. Your mouth is then rinsed clean after. Your teeth will then be brushed rigorously using an electric toothbrush and a special grain toothpaste to dislodge any plaque that may have been half-scraped. The dentist will then floss between each of your teeth.

Dental Examination

After you have been cleaned, your mouth will be inspected using special instruments for signs of infections and tooth decay. Your gums will be inspected for red pockets, redness, and swelling; your teeth for grinding; and your tongue, neck, palate, lymph glands and lips for oral cancer and other diseases.

Who qualifies for dental exam and cleaning?

Anyone is a qualified candidate for a dental examination and cleaning procedure. It may help you catch infections and stop them in their tracks before they even get to develop. If you have been treated for a dental problem before or have been rendered susceptible to a certain infection, you should especially consider undergoing this procedure more often.
